Favorite Recipes using ingredients found on our farm

Summer garden delights

For the good Lord has blessed us with this farm, our little piece of Heaven on earth but we had no ideas just how much he truly blessed us with. At first glance, you’ll see the obvious food sources: chickens and ducks for eggs, a veggie garden with fresh veggies to eat. That’s all we saw at first as well.

We, the human race, have grown so accustomed to running to the store to buy what we need. In more recent times, it’s as simple as picking up our phones, ordering and poof, our goods are delivered to our doorsteps. It’s so easy, click, click, click. That’s all fine and dandy but what happens when those things become unavailable or are tainted with pesticides or worse?

The idea of homesteading and becoming more self sufficient is an important goal for our family. As we look beyond the obvious food supplies of fresh eggs and veggies from the garden, what do we find on our farm that will nourish our bodies? The bounties are endless and we are only scratching the surface.

Some interesting items that have been used for food are hickory nuts fallen off of our many hickory trees, dandelion greens and petals for tea, jelly, bread and hand salve, purple clover and other wildflowers for jelly, bright red wine berries, honeysuckle, mushrooms (we are not fans but they are still edible) and more.

We have gathered a collection of our favorite recipes using ingredients that are found on our farm and will be adding to it as we find more.
